100_8467The Ginny and John Elam Environmental Center

The Ginny & John Elam Environmental Center at Camp Ken-Jockety is a facility dedicated to providing natural science, arts and recreation, outdoor skills and teambuilding programs to Girl Scouts, school groups and other youth-based organizations.

The Elam Center is known for programs that use the natural environment to foster leadership skills, to build self confidence and to develop respect for the interdependence of all living things. Each participant in an Elam program will learn and grow from her experience.

Program Opportunities

The Elam Center offers programs and special events for Girl Scouts year-round. Pick-a-Programs are designed as troop programs that you schedule at a time and date that is convenient for you, while special events take place throughout the year for specific age groups. Program opportunities can be found in the latest issue of myGSOH.

Whether your troop is working on a specific Girl Scout Journey or badge, or simply wants to participate in a new or familiar fun activity, our Pick-a-Program options offer flexibility and many choices so that you can customize your program to meet your group’s specific interests. You may also wish to view the Event Calendar for information about upcoming events.

In addition to our Girl Scout program offerings, we also have activities for Boy Scouts, school groups, youth groups and birthdays. Please contact us for more information about these programs.

Volunteer and Employment Opportunities

There are a number of volunteer opportunities at Camp Ken-Jockety and the Elam Environmental Center. Most special events are run with the help of Girl Scout volunteers age 11 and up and our summer Day Camp is run entirely by volunteers. And we could still use your help! We need volunteers to help with delivering programs, preparing for events, and general camp maintenance. To find out how you can get involved, email for more information.

Camp Ken-Jockety Forest Management Project 2014

In the early 2000s, the need for a much more proactive forest management plan for all council sites became apparent.  The council’s properties team, in consultation with federal and state regulatory agencies and forest industry professionals, has formulated such a plan.  For more information click here.
